The information given below has been supplied to
me by the Chief Justice from his notes.
As regards 1 of Secretary of State's Despatch para. 3.
Charles Campbell the employé was engaged by Howell about January, 1897, as manager of the Butchery, on behalf of the Butchery. His salary 850 a month was paid by Howell also on behalf of
the butchery; with regard to this Howell said "I made myself responsible for Campbell's salary because I knew Yuen Cheung (old boy)",
As to 2 of paragraph 3.
Tang Kee bought Butchery in January, 1897, since then Howell cashed cheques for him regularly to
oblige him.
